Project Updates – Storm Season Is Upon Us

Storm season is here and already the Hunter and Central Coast Regions have felt the impact with early November bringing a severe storm cell to the area. Hire Rite Temporary Fence have been busy installing make safe fencing across the region to secure properties affected by storm damage. Below are just a few of our recent make safe temporary fence projects:

Kurri Kurri

Kurri Kurri Primary School felt the full impact of storm season

Kurri Kurri in the Hunter Valley, in particular, was severely affected by recent storms. Numerous homes and buildings were damaged when trees came down and strong winds caused chaos in the region. One building to feel the impact was the Kurri Kurri Primary School which received damage when a tree came down on their buildings.

Hire Rite Temporary Fence were able to secure the site while arborists and builders tended to the fallen tree and associated damage. And a quick turn around by everyone meant the impact to school time was minimised and the kids of Kurri Kurri were back ready to learn the next day.

A home in Abermain suffered significant damage after a tree fell through the roof

Residents of Abermain were also impacted by storm damage. This home suffered significant damage to their roof after a large tree fell right through it.

Hire Rite were on hand to immediately secure the site to prevent people entering and risking injury. When the damage to a home is this severe, it’s important to secure the site first and foremost with temporary fencing before bringing in the experts to evaluate how much damage has been caused and how structurally sound the remaining structure is.

Installing temporary fencing around the site also helps deter any looters or vandals looking for mischief while the house is sitting in a vulnerable state.

How prepared are you for storm season?

The storm that caused the damage shown above took just two minutes to pass through the Hunter Region, but packed 120km per hour winds that took off roofs, uprooted trees and left two people injured. Kurri Kurri and Abermain were two of the worst areas affected, with Toukley on the Central Coast also affected.

While Hire Rite Temporary Fence are on hand to secure sites quickly after any storm has hit, we always recommend preparing for storm season well in advance and securing your home against unpredictable weather to minimise any damage.

This includes cutting back overgrown trees and removing or securing your loose objects and lightweight items such as children’s play equipment, outdoor furniture and garden equipment. Prevention is far better than cure when it comes to storms and other unpredictable weather.
